SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals project

Dear members of BSS Global Project HARVEST HOMESTEAD

Welcome onboard.  I will share all the necessary information in this blog and you will just write your comments with your name.

Look at the video:  SDGs Goal video

Driving Question:

HOW CAN WE AS AGENTS OF CHANGE IDENTIFY A PROBLEM AND CREATE A SOLUTION, IN A MANNER THAT WE THINK GLOBALLY BUT ACT LOCALLY?

The video link I am sharing is about how people have worked on their problems and get a solution out of it.  Watch the video carefully and find out what problems you identify around your own home or community that can head towards healthy living.

In your comments share what simplest change an you bring about to help yourself as well as be a role model for others.

Kanga Enjaoyed with Haiqa at the Food Street

Dear diary,
Haiqah Javaid, student of Class III- C (Beaconhouse School System , Primary 1, PECHS, Karachi) brought me at her house on Monday 28th January 2013. She has a lovely house and she keeps it clean. She took me to the food street in the evening. We wanted to have some traditional food. She showed me how “Kata Kat’’ is made. A man was making this dish on a Big Tawa and the music produced while he was making Kata Kat was awesome. It seems like a musical instrument, a big tawa and two sharp edged iron spatulas, to mix and cut all vegetables and liver etc. It was fun to see it.
Then Haiqah showed me how “Tikka Botis” are made. Small pieces of chicken were Barbequed on the coal. The flavor due to it was delicious. Tikka boti were really spicy. Next to it were a big pan with a lot of oil in it and a man was making parattas in it. Wow!
Later, Haiqah took me to the “Paan shop” as well and we enjoyed the sweet paan. Paan was actually a betel leaf with betel nut and coconut and other sweet things in it. It was tasty. Then we went to the “Dry Fruit” shop. The shopkeeper had kept all the dry fruits very neatly on a small cart. It was fun being there. We had a short “Rickshaw” ride as well. Rickshaw is a public transport with three wheels used by people in Pakistan. We had loads of fun. It was nice being with Haiqah. She took good care of me.
Thank you!
From,
Kanga.

Handmade pottery in Pakistan

Colorful traditional pottery made by the people of Hyderabad.  Very Creative Art!  Its a very ancient style similar to Indus Civilization.  Guys! I am still on my way to explore more places in Pakistan. Meet you soon.  I will send you movie on voicethread also!

I am in the Rice Fields of Hyderabad, city of Pakistan

Kanga wrote
I am with pretty Zanirah.  She has taken me to a  village near Hyderabad, a city of Pakistan.  It is 150 km away from Karachi.  We went by road in her car.  On our way we saw rice and hay fields.  Pakistan's rice is one of the best rice in the world.  Pakistan export a lot of rice to U.K, America and Australia.  Its "Basmati rice" is one of its kind.  Eat it.

BAGH-E-IBNE-QASIM (BIN QASIM PARK)

Bagh Ibne Qasim (meaning Garden of the son of Qasim) is located in Clifton, Karachi. More than 10 million people visited the park per year. Is also the largest family park in South Asia. This park was named as Bagh Ibne Qasim in memory of the 8th century Muslim conqueror Muhammad Bin Qasim.
"You know there is a competition among students in the class, whoever take my to more places of Karach, he will get my friend Koala." I am really enjoying and exploring this new world!

FRERE HALL

Frere Hall was built in 18th century in honour of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere.

After nine years Frere Hall is now open for general public (May 2011). Beautiful lush green Surroundings of Frere Hall are known as Bagh e Jinnah / Jinnah Garden. The architecture of Frere Hall was built in the Gothic style as it was constructed during the British Raj over subcontinent in 18th century. The interior of Frere Hall is dominated by wood work: wooden floors, wooden stairs and even elegant wood work on roof. Frere Hall is also known as The great Sadequain art Gallery. I went there for first time and my mission is to take photographs of this amazing architecture. Luckily for me it was a weekday so there wasn't much visitors to spoil my shots and as this place is just resumed for general public at the start of May 2011 after nine years, still there are quite a few people aware about in the city.  Thankyou! Sheharyar for taking me there.  I have seen some amazing art work which I have never seen before.
